Bridging the gap between homelessness and hope one family at a time
On Saturday evening, October 30th , Housing Initiatives of Princeton (HIP) held it 5th annual fall benefit, a Rent Party! Inspired by Harlem, NY rent parties of the 1920s and 1930s, supporters gathered at the Present Day Club where we listened to Jazz music, heard poetry that enabled us to visualize a rent party as it was happening back in the 1920s, ate delicious southern soul food, learned about some of the intellectuals and artists who helped style the Harlem Renaissance, bid on an array of items and events in a silent auction and enjoyed a highly entertaining live auction, all to benefit families in our community who are assisted by HIP’s transitional housing program, including residency at Prescott House. It was an all around success; warmest thanks to all who attended, who contributed and joined in a spirited demonstration of community and willingness to help neighbors who are facing homelessness.
